Starred Review

[Kacy] Duke, a personal trainer to celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Denzel Washington, and Julianne Moore, has crafted an inspirational volume to help women "celebrate the body you have, get the body you want." She addresses not only the physical aspects of fitness but also the spiritual and emotional components needed to maintain it. Women will appreciate her emphasis on sense of self; the point here is to realize the potential of one's individual physique, not aim for an unattainable Hollywood ideal. Each of the three parts ("I Am," "I Can," and "I Do") features motivational text, "woman warrior" exercises, healthy recipes, milestones, and a workout log.

Duke has an approachable style and blends references to current scientific research with information on different cultural goddesses throughout. Her book creates the effect of having a personal trainer, and the general public will love it. Highly recommended for public libraries, particularly where self-help and fitness books are popular.--Mary Grace Flaherty, Sidney Memorial P.L., NY

What the stars are saying about Kacy Duke:

"I trust Kacy with my body; she's simply the best!"
--Denzel Washington

“Kacy Duke believes that physical and emotional fitness go hand in hand. She is a wonderful trainer and a very perceptive human being, and I trust her implicitly with my body and my heart.”
--Julianne Moore

“What brought me to Kacy was my vanity but what made me stay were the results. After I gave birth to my daughter, Lexi, I realized I had packed on fifty pounds! Life is too short, and I wanted to be fabulous right now. Kacy helped me achieve that."
--Iman

Several years ago, I recall reading an interview with Kacy Duke in which she said she'd be writing a fitness book "but not a leg lift book!" I wondered what happened with it, and was excited to see it available last winter on amazon.com. I held off writing a review because at that time, I just wasn't a person who worked out. I had done yoga, some elliptical stuff, but could never quite get myself to go work out regularly.

Kacy's book is organized into the physical and psychological aspects of working out. The physical is in a series of different workout that are strength and cardio, based upon your skill level (and motivation). I think the greatest strength of the book, however, is its emphasis on your psychological health and your motivations for working out. Once you have a healthy, positive attitude towards your body, you will CONTINUE to work out, which is where most of us fail.

I have recovered from an eating disorder and have never been a big fan of working out, but six months after reading the book, I was shocked to realize that I went from not being able to run, to running 3 miles every day. Two months later, I ran my first 10k. Now, I run 6.5 miles every other day. I'm not bragging here, but am pointing out the serious changes that I made thanks to taking the negativity out of working out. Kacy's voice rings true and she reminds us that if you hate yourself, you're not going to want to stick to doing something you don't really like doing.

It's not about losing weight, but about getting healthy. Kacy is brilliant in that I remained encouraged even when I got sick a few times, or was frustrated at not seeing some results fast enough. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered herself "not a working out type" and challenge you to NOT work out after reading this. I hope you'll buy this and post a review about your own personal achievements. If I can do it, believe me, you will not only do it but also enjoy it.

Okay... so I'm a bit jaded. Every January it seems that bookstores are flooded idealized, unrealistic images of perky fitness 'trainers.' But Kacy Duke's, "Show It Love Workout" is a refreshing change.

First and foremost, it's obvious that Kacy Duke is a seasoned trainer that has earned the support and trust of some of Hollywood's sexiest bodies (Denzel Washington, Iman, Julianne Moore to name a few).

What sets her apart is that she isn't focused on remaking your body into something it's not. Her philosophy is that the only way you can get the body you want is to love and celebrate the body you already have. From 'thanking your thighs' to 'saluting your stomach' Kacy's offers a soothing balm to those of us who have all too often fallen into the trap of hating our bodies.

Her program is solidly grounded in a routine that doesn't require lots of equipment or time, so it fits into just about anyone's schedule. Combined with up-to-date nutritional information, self-help coaching, and real-world advice on how to stay fit through the most challenging of times, this book leaves you revved and ready to get your heart rate up and your weight down. And if your motivation starts to droop, all you have to do is leaf through the book and let Kacy's own picture of fitness inspire you to get fit and stay fit.

At Last!! Someone is talking to women where they are today. I LOVED this read. It allowed me to celebrate where I am today and get excited about where I am going. I can actually say "I love my arms" while I try to make them tone & firmer. Kacy you speak to my soul. I am celebrating the Goddess within. Women everywhere will be talking about "Show It Love".
