REVIEWS OF THE FIRST EDITION
"The overlap between chapters helps to reinforce theories and allows each chapter to be read independently.
The chapters give some insight into the amount of work expected of the elite athlete, the importance of the correct training and at various stages in the season, and who requires strength or power and how to gain it.
It is a reference book to which one will return time and again."

This book is a great compilation of research surrounding strength and sports performance. This would make a great addition to someone wanting to learn more about the scientific nature of strength and how it pertains to athletics.
You should be aware, however, that this is not a typical book in that you read each chapter lightly. The writing style is very similar to peer-reviewed journals.
Some of the sample chapters such as "Stretch-Shortening Cycle" and "Neural Adaptation to Strength Training" are excellent.
This book would make a great supplement to an exercise physiology student or anyone interested in exercise science.
